PROGRAM OF EDITION II

March 3 to April 29, 2023

Collective exhibition with Dounia Chemsseddoha and Lisa Hoffmann.

November 6, 2022
from 3 to 6 pm

Epilogue #2 – Lisa Hoffmann. Event organized by the Polynome collective and closing of the an• other here residency.

The nomadic residency program an· other here and Polynome collective invite you to an afternoon of artistic programming. To mark the end of the residency in Montbrun-les-Bains, the artist Lisa Hoffmann will propose an event based on walks and anecdotes.

Taking as a starting point the discovery of a new environment, the works of Lisa Hoffmann question the notions of proximity and relationship to others. Curiosity and the search for a direct link to the places and individuals that surround her pushes the artist into an endless strolling, open to the unexpected and to encounters.

Lisa Hoffmann will draw, as she immerses herself in the territory, an artistic intervention that will close the second edition of an· other here.

Conversation between Lisa Hoffmann and Livia Tarsia in Curia, co-founder of the an• other here residency.

Lisa Hoffmann’s body of work is based on photography, video, and applied research. She composes fictional works that tell fragments of (his)stories. Intuitive encounters and solitary or group observations are tools that Hoffmann uses to create images of the places she passes through, cultivating esthetically sensuous narrations that also bear messages.

During her residency at Montbrun-les-Bains, Lisa Hoffmann will collect anecdotes – ones that connect us to places, stories, people, ones that re- or un- enchant memory – both individual and collective. Gleaning and gathering transitory moments, she re-animates far-off realities, with the aim of creating a transitional story, which forms the heart of her project, which will be presented at KOMMET ¬– Lieu d’art Contemporain (Lyon) in March 2023.

Lisa Hoffmann has taken part in several international exhibitions. She presented her work in 2021 in the collective exhibition Streetlight, Roman Susan Art Foundation, Chicago, US; in adaptation and transition during the Photography Biennal of Porto (2019); at the Hamburg Triennial of photography (2018); and at the BBB centre d’Art (Toulouse, 2016). Her films have been shown at the Tampere film festival (2022), at the Hamburg Kurzfilm Festival (2021) and at the Rotterdam Architecture Film Festival (2021).

Epilogue #1 – Dounia Chemsseddoha. Event organized by the Polynome collective.

The residency an• other here and Polynome collective invite you to an artistic programme for the afternoon. With guests artists Dounia Chemsseddoha, Lisa Hoffmann and other contributors such as Les Aventurières du goût, the event will take place around a convivial banquet and a performance.

This moment will celebrate the end of Dounia Chemsseddoha’s residency with a discovery of her work produced during the month of September in Montbrun-les-Bains and a performative activation of her pieces. The artist will share with the public the research she will have carried out in the area about healing practices and rituals. The afternoon will continue with a meal tasting and beverages that combine sensoriality and nutrition, festivities and care with a discovery of medicinal plants.

Conversation between Dounia Chemsseddoha and Livia Tarsia in Curia, co-founder of the an• other here residency.

Delving into the supernatural and spiritual, in her artistic practice Dounia Chemsseddoha explores the spaces between the visible and the invisible world. Her installations summon the occult and celebrate all living things, in opposition with our era, which is paralyzed by the artificial. Like a faith healer, she sanctifies life and strives to connect with the biosphere.

Her project during the residency aims at provoking a tipping point between artistic and artisanal practices. She will collect essential elements of the territory: plants, flowers, and earth from Drôme Provençale, in order to create hybrid objects that may be worn on the body, and which are reminiscent of fonts containing medicinal water and oil. Her quest? To rekindle our perceptive memory; a form of memory engendered by the senses, so that we humans may discover a new intimacy with nature.

In 2021 Dounia Chemsseddoha took part in the SAISONS ZÉRO “hibernation” residency at the Monastère des Clarisses, Roubaix. In 2020 she did a research residency on nature and the sacred, along with artist Béatrice Darmagnac. Her recent exhibitions: 16H30Chantier festival, Périgueux (2021); La 16ème station duo show with Béatrice Darmagnac, Galerie de l’Arthothèque, Gondrin (2020); Seize 9e: remarkable showings of short films, Bordeaux. In 2021 Dounia Chemsseddoha received grants from: TRAVERSÉES, CIPAC, FRAAP, réseau Diagonal, and the AIA DRAC Occitanie.
